Salida, Colorado, is a small historic town nestled in a valley surrounded by high mountain peaks. The Arkansas River is a short walk from the house and there you will find some of the finest Kayaking and Whitewater rafting in the country. Nearby is a premier singletrack bike trail known as the Monarch Crest Trail. Hikers flock to the valley to hike the many Fourteeners (mountain peaks over 14,000 feet high) that ring Salida. Fly fishing is wonderful from the banks of the Arkansas or from a guided raft.
Salida has been listed as "Top 100 Small Art Towns," "Top 10 Places to Retire," and "Top 10 Outdoor Recreation Towns". Lots of restaurants, art galleries and boutique shopping. Quaint national historic downtown district. See reminders of our railroad, mining and agriculture history. Salida offers small-town friendliness with only two stop lights. World-class mountain biking, mountain hiking, climbing, fishing, kayaking, Ski Monarch (just 20 minutes away), snowshoe, cross country.
